Wings, by joan tower
Created with Sing&Sync
Performed with Live Video Accompaniment (LVA)
The multimedia production for Joan Tower’s Wings (for solo clarinet) premiered in 2021 as the first concert work to use Live Video Accompaniment (LVA). In this performance, the projected animation flexibly follows the live musician—in this case, PetsAloud co-founder Nikki Pet—maintaining the intended choreography between sound and image. Since then, the piece has been performed at venues around the world, including the Yale School of Music, Oxford University, the Yale Center for Collaborative Arts and Media, and Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. While each performance is uniquely shaped by the live interpretation, LVA ensures that the synchronization between music and animation remains intact every time.
Furthermore, the “nest” from the performance—an animated element that pulses in time with the clarinet’s musical flourishes—was generated using an early prototype of Sing&Sync, our interactive mobile and tablet app that lets users create their own synchronized multimedia performances.
At our current stage of development, we are seeking partners to create musical multimedia using our tools. Our collaboration will help you achieve your goals onstage and in the classroom—all while helping us refine and improve our products. If you are interested in working together, contact us.
